General Program Information

Why is the program being implemented?

In 1974 the United States Congress passed a law known as the "Safe Drinking Water Act" to establish national standards for drinking water. This law authorized the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to set national health-based standards for drinking water This act is enforced by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and local municipal code. Under this enforcement, the Sheboygan Water Utility is required to maintain a Cross Connection Control Program.

The City of Sheboygan ordinance currently prohibits any direct or potential cross connection hazards connected to the public drinking water supply. The ordinance provides enforcement to perform periodic on site surveys.
