On February 11, 2014, the Sheboygan Water Utility directly contacted customers with water laterals known to be vulnerable to freezing and advised these customers to run a pencil-sized stream of water through the night.
Only about a dozen additional water laterals have frozen.
With temperatures beginning to increase, the Water Utility is NOT advising all customers to run water around the clock. This is unnecessary.
For customers extremely concerned about the possibility of a frozen water lateral, running a pencil-sized stream of water through the late nighttime hours might be a wise investment. However, at this time, the Utility is no longer recommending that all customers run water at night.
